Catalog of the Mary Schafer quilt collection as of 1980, created for the purpose of documenting the collection. The catalog includes names, dates of construction, dimensions and other pertinent information for 121 quilts which became the Mary Schafer A Collection. Of these, 118 were purchased by Michigan State University. This copy is highly valuable because it is annotated by Mary Schafer. Entries include a number by each quilt which might be appraised value, and purchase information where applicable. "The Schafer collection is of museum quality having great historical significance. Her love affair with quilts has resulted in a major representative collection, which is accompanied by a wealth of knowledge as to its contents. She is not only a nationally known collector, but also a master craftsman. her own quilts are completely made by hand and are always within the traditional realm, demonstrating the skillful needlework which American women of the 18th and 19th century prided themselves in."
