Description |
1891 photograph of The York Inn. Looks to be near completion but still under construction. This is a xerox of a photograph. The York Inn was built on the west side of Marion to cater to industrialists visiting Marion during the gas boom. When the gas ran out, the hotel went out of business. It was used for a while as a 70-room sanitorium or "alcohol cure clinic," before it was torn down in 1901. Recycling at its best: lumber, foundation stones and all construction materials were purchased by Marion businessman Lee Hall and he built 3 new houses in the fashionable neighborhood on Washington Street, just south of downtown Marion. George and Marie Webster bought one of the homes and moved in on April 21, 1902. This home is now home to The Quilters Hall of Fame. |
Provenance |
Photo was given to the museum by Rosalind Webster Perry, granddaughter of George and Marie Webster. |
