Description |
Grass Burr, hand made 3-D star of twelve sides with white button in each star center. Cardboard diamonds covered with 30's fabric. Star on one end is apricot, followed by a row of five solid blue stars, then five calico stars in shades of blue, finishing with a 1920s print star in blue and orange on white. The buttons are mother of pearl in various designs, attached with wire. Hand sewn. Unidentified objects inside cause the object to rattle when shaken. Made in the early 1990's. The American Heritage Dictionary gives the following definition of a burr: The rough, prickly or spiny fruit husk seed pod or flower of various plants, such as chestnut or the burdock. Mary Barton made many grass burrs and added small rocks or beans to simulate the seeds inside that rattle. |
