Description |
Cream, beige and tan pieced, appliqued and quilted jacket made by Georgia Bonesteel from her own line of fabric designed for Wamsutta. The jacket features a quilted mandarin collar and long sleeves, with an asymmetrical design of swirling brown or beige tulips up the proper right side and sleeve. The right sleeve has an overlay of sheer organza which mutes the colors, which would otherwise match the front and back applique. Applique is hand sewn with blanket stitch on the front and back, and by machine on the sleeve. The proper left front and sleeve are a patchwork of large and small four patches on point. A line of flying geese triangles is under the proper right arm and four patches and bars under the proper left arm. The back of the jacket includes continuation of the tulip applique panel done in hand whip stitching with four patch blocks on point. The back includes selvedge identifying Bonesteel's fabric line. The jacket is lined with a gold toile. All interior seams are fully bound. The lower and front edges are bound with a background fabric of tiny brown print on cream, which is also used as a background on both sleeves and inside the collar. Quilting is by machine through a fairly thick batt. The collar and linig indicate this piece has been worn fairly frequently, resulting in some soil and staining. Probably a piece designed and made by Bonesteel for her own used as opposed to television wear. No label. |
