Description |
cotton fabrics in pink, green, white, blue and brown prints and solids. Backing is cotton and the batting is a thin loft cotton. Hand pieced and quilted. 4" triangles in sixteen rows of 23 full and some parts. All surrounded by a 2" brown, 1 3/4" brown print and 8" outer brown solid. some triangles are halves and color placement complete the secondary star images. Finished with a 3/8" applied binding, machine sewn front to hand sewn back. Quilting designs, hanging diamonds, fans diagonal parallel lines and feathers in an excellent, very even stitch and tension. Visual impact is high, very graphic. |

The Hegy family quilt collection was owned by Arnold Savage, a renowned, award winning quilter who predominantly uses vintage fabrics in his works from the family fabric stash. Grandmother Katarina Hegy Schreiner made the top in the 1880s from fabrics dating back to the 1790s. Arnold's mother gave him the top in 1994. Arnold disassembled it, replaced damaged patches, and rearranged the configuration into a Colorwash with a secondary star images. It was awarded a second place in the hand quilting Masterpiece category at NQA in 2013. |
