Provenance |
"Hawaii Remembered "My husband and I loved the flowers that we saw in Hawaii and we admired the way trees and plants served as inspiration for the designs of Hawaiian quilts. "Most Hawaiian quilts have a large overall design but at my age I wasn't sure that I could finish one so I chose a variety of small ones. "It was completed in 1991 after 4-5 years of hand stitching during happy times and sad times. My husband did not live long enough for us to view the finished quilt together - to remember Hawaii. Mary Barton" (Undated note included on scrapbook page along with a photo of the quilt and a swatch of the pink fabric.) This quilt and three others were displayed at Mary Barton's memorial service (photo included) in 2003. |
