Description |
Giant red, white and blue Bicentennial tote bag with a pieced and appliqued motif of Uncle Sam riding a high-wheeled bicycle with American flags flying from the handlebars and back of the bicycle. It is bordered by a three-strip border in red, white, red with blue and white five-pointed stars as corner blocks. The sides, back, lining and straps of the bag are solid red. A white cotton pull cord through a casing with grommets at the end serves as the closure. All quilting is by hand in white thread. The center front panel is quilted in squares on point; the centers of the bicycle wheels have spokes quilted in; the striped border is quilted with swirls. The cornerstone stars are quilted in the ditch. The flags are quilted in waves. The black bicycle frame and flagpoles are quilted in the ditch. There is a flange around the tote front on all four sides. The back, sides, bottom and straps are channel-stitched in red thread. The inside of the front is similarly channel-stitched, and the decorative front is applied over it. The Uncle Sam pattern was designed and sold by Country Threads, "Uncle Sam #123." |
