Description |
Cotton fabrics, prints and solids, in green, yellow, brown, cream and multi-scrap. Solid white backing and a thin loft polyester batting. Hand pieced and quilted. 6 3/4" blocks set 8 by 9 with 1/14" frames alternating in green and gold for each block. Extra frame row at top and bottom. All surrounded by 1" light brown and 3 1/4" dark brown borders. A 3/8" applied binding, machine sewn front to hand sewn back. High visual impact, very strong color. Quilting designs: To the piece, rope, cross X, parallel lines, diagonal parallel lines. Quilting is excellent overall, very even stitch and tension, Moderate amount. Construction is excellent overall strong and durable, hangs very straight sharp points, corners match. |

The Hegy family quilt collection was owned by Arnold Savage, a renowned, award winning quilter who predominantly uses vintage fabrics in his works from the family fabric stash. Blocks made by Grandmother Katarina Hegy Schreiner in 1878 and given to Arnold by his mother to finish. He repaired and replaced damaged blocks and faithfully followed her quilt markings. Instructions: Fabrics include an 1876 centennial commemorative fabric. |
