Description |
May Tulips quilt in lavender, coral and green. Main field is nine hand appliqued blocks with an appliqued deco style border with a shaped edge and mitered corners. The border combines facing lavender tulips alternating with five graduated stripes in lavender and coral. The white background fabric is somewhat translucent and allows the seam allowances between blocks and borders to show clearly. The back is a single piece of white fabric. Fabric content of front and back is probably a cotton/polyester blend. Binding is coral cotton/polyester bias. The border has rounded corners. Hand quilting averages eight stitches to the inch in parallel diagonal lines one inch apart across the entire quilt through a medium polyester batt. There is a center line quilted through each of the leaves, and quilting around each appliqued shape. The center of each appliqued block is quilted with a rose and leaf design, and a daisy is quilted over the corners where blocks join. There is a hanging sleeve applied to the back top edge. It is marked at one end in felt tip pen: "M. Harvey 1997 Tulip." At the opposite across one corner of the quilt backing is also marked "M. Harvey 1997 May Tulips." |
