Description |
Fabric panel assembled in 2014 by Arnold Savage from fabrics in his collection. This panel is a white cotton sheet with 64 fabric samples from the 1920 through 1930 time period. The fabric swatches are mostly florals with several plaids and geometrics. In the middle of the panel is a rectangle formed of 13 irregularly shaped swatches surrounding a central square printed with rows of gingerbread men. Several swatches are actually from the 50s and 60s. The top hem of the panel is hand written in ink 1920-1930. The back top corners are marked Panel 7 AHS. All samples are machine stitched in white thread using a large stitch. All samples are raw edge. Most of the fabrics on this panel are also found in the accompanying set of binders, #2014.019.011. |
Provenance |
These fabrics were cut by Savage from his immense personal and family collection of historic fabrics, and constructed as panels specifically for the Quilters Hall of Fame. This panel bears the ink notation: "All 1920 + 1930 Fabric from Madonna Savage." "This project is dedicated to all lovers of fine old fabrics, and especially to Barbara Brackman who has been my mentor since the 1980s, and who spent a wonderful afternoon at my home in Rose Township Ohio studying quilts and fabrics until darkness engulfed us. Arnold Hegy Savage July 2014" |
