Description |
Four part ensemble comprising a dress, belt, sleeveless tunic and portable machine cover. Long tapered sleeveless vest in solid dark blue polished cotton with center back, side and front quilted panels machine quilted with the ensemble name, "Have Machine Will Travel." The front decorative panel is edged in the same pieced triangles in indigo, red and yellow as trimmed the apron. Decorative panel is edged in red and gold braid. The inside and outside of the open front and hem are edged in two different decorative braids. The interior is the same black and white on red print as the dress's skirt. It is embellished with many pockets made of the different dress fabrics and usable for rulers, batting, fabric, etc. Also attached are two groups of plastic templates, four spools of thread, four fabrics, a wooden embroidery hoop, an early rotary cutter by Salem without blade and initialled in marker "G. J. B.", and various ribbons for tying on additional accessories. There are also two small pockets made of irregular nine-patch blocks, which may be antique. |

Email correspondence from Georgia Bonesteel in 2015: "An ensemble complete with quilted cover case for my Bernina. The dress is based on antique blocks worked around colorful batik fabric. A loose decorative apron accents the full skirt which is all tied together with a cinch quilted belt. The tinker's sleeveless coat opens to reveal notions and necessary items for quilt making. Quilted on the entire surface of the long vest are the words, "Have Machine, Will Travel." |
