Description |
Vertical strippy set with five pieced rows alternating with six wholecloth rows. The wholecloth border print is a blue, green and gold print on a vivid red in a pattern which suggests paisley but is not. The pieced strips are square in a square blocks in a variety of Turkey red prints with white on white centers and very pale tan on white setting triangles. Inscriptions on the light center squares and setting triangles bear a variety of names, inscriptions and messages, all hand written in ink. Signers include QHF honorees Bets Ramsey, Xenia Cord, Virginia Gunn, Yvonne Porcella, Nancy Crow, Karey Bresenhan, Jean Ray Laury, Virginia Avery, Bonnie Leman, Joyce Gross, Michael James, Georgia Bonesteel, Jonathan Holstein, Donna Wilder, Eleanor Burns and Barbara Brackman. The backing is an indistinct allover print in shades of stone and sand, with a hanging sleeve of the same fabric. The binding is a pop of dark hot pink. The quilting in the wholecloth strips follows the motif of the fabric in light red thread. In the pieced strips the center square names are outlined in various shapes and the white triangles are quilted to the piece in cream colored thread. The hand quilting is 6 to 8 stitches per inch. |

Presentation quilt to Hazel Carter for the 30th anniversary of the Quilters Hall of Fame in 2009. Written in ink at the top of each pieced strip are the following words: "Surprise presentation to Hazel Carter at Quilters Hall of Fame Celebration 2009 Founders Luncheon July 16 Hazel Carter Thanks Bunny and Karen and all who signed." |
