Provenance |
The Hegy family quilt collection was owned by Arnold Savage, a renowned, award winning quilter who predominantly uses vintage fabrics in his works from the family fabric stash. Mr. Savage's card description : "Never used and never washed. Heavily marked with blue chalk under the diagonal quilting lines along the furrows. A wonderful collection of scraps from the 1880's and 1890's -- "Shaker Grays" and "Claret Reds", and commemorative prints (one a rooster) from the turn of the century. This quilt was never finished until 1988 when her grandson completed the cable quilting in the borders and applied the binding using the identical green print from her stash. Notice how the diagonal quilting lines have pulled the quilt out of shape?" |
