Description |
Turkish style coat in sky blue sateen with allover corded quilting. Fabric is at least partly cotton. Coat has set-in sleeves, flat felled seams, slits on the sides with small flanges to access pockets and gores set in the sides to create an A-line silhouette. V neckline, front opening has a metal zipper applied later, and frogs of the coat fabric with football-shaped black wood buttons, which may also have been applied at a later time. The entire coat is covered with corded hand quilting in vertical strips separated by double lines of cording. The corded patterns are chevrons, diagonal multi-line zig-zags alternating with tiny grid triangles, and groups of diagonal lines separated by zig-zags. The hem has been turned up at a later date. Interior fabric is a white plain weave cotton, on which the blue quilting thread shows clearly. See "Quilt Treasures of Great Britain: The Heritage Search of the Quilters Guild", ISBN# 1-55853-384-2, pages 72-73, for information on this style of coat in corded quilting. |
