Description |
Cotton fabrics in prints and solids in red, multi scrap in many colors. Backing is cotton - red print on white. Batting is a thin loft cotton. Hand pieced and hand quilted. 5/8" squares set 112 by 135 side by side. Outer row3 is visual 25 patches creating a frame. 1/4 " binding machine sewn front to 1/2" hand sewn back. High visual impact - impressive number of pieces., Quilting is in diagonal parallel lines, cross hatch.. Quilting is excellent overall, very even stitch and tension in a moderate amount. |

The Hegy family quilt collection was owned by Arnold Savage, a renowned, award winning quilter who predominantly uses vintage fabrics in his works from the family fabric stash. Piecing started by Aunt Alice Hegy in 1920-30s. Passed to Mary Madonna Schreiner Savage (mother) who finished the piecing and began quilting. Finished by Arnold Savage in 1978. Fabrics span from 1880s to 1930s. |
