Provenance |
The Hegy family quilt collection was owned by Arnold Savage, a renowned, award winning quilter who predominantly uses vintage fabrics in his works from the family fabric stash. Gertrude Hegner Fisher is the great great grandmother of Mr. Savage. Mr. Savage's card description : "The double pinks and green diamonds with tiny dark diamond overprinting have faded badly. Very thin batting has migrated through in most places. White background fabrics show discolored age spots which do not wash out. The same double pink is used in the binding and shows wear on the edges. Double quilting lines go across the blocks, crosshatching over the sashing strips and along the outside border, In the late 1850's there was great turmoil over secession and many people urged "Keep the Union Square" and not go to war. Women were denied the right vote, but they sure could voice their options through their quilts and vex their menfolk! NOTE: This entire quilt is pieced on the diagonal!" |
