Skirt |
Description |
One of three fragments of a Chinese skirt owned by Marie Webster; embroidery from this skirt was used in Bets Ramsey's wallhanging 2015.FIC.016. This is one embroidered panel from the skirt. It depicts several golden butterflies embroidered against densely packed embroidered blue flowers. This is surrounded on three sides by a strip of floral embroidery then a strip of skirt background fabric and finally by a wider embroidered blue floral border. This border is edged on both sides with newer black satin ribbon which has been applied over the fragments of the original border. One end of the panel has been chopped off |
Provenance |
Bets Ramsey made a wall hanging out of part of this skirt (Object ID 2015.FIC.016). "Rosalind Perry knew I liked to salvage old fabric pieces and when she found the Chinese (?) dress in one of Marie's dresser drawers she asked me if I could do something with it. I think Marie had some costume get-ups as you know from her photo in the hall, but I don't know how the dress fit into her life. Maybe Rosalind knows more about it. Thanks for reminding me about working on that project. It was fun. Bets Ramsey" |
