Description |
Fabric panel assembled in 2014 by Arnold Savage from fabrics in his collection. This panel is a white cotton sheet with 29 samples of printed feed sack fabrics. Mostly florals with 3 striped samples. The center swatch and all 4 corners are made of large pieces that have been hemmed before being stitched to the sheet. the center fabric is printed in a design of golden fruit and stripes on a green and white background which is often used for table cloths or tea towels. The words FEED SACKS are written at the top of the panel. The top corners are marked panel 8. The initials AHS on the top right back. At least one fabric which may be from the 1890s is included. |

These fabrics were cut by Savage from his immense personal and family collection of historic fabrics, and constructed as panels specifically for the Quilters Hall of Fame. This panel bears the ink notation: "All 1920 + 1930 Fabric from Madonna Savage." "This project is dedicated to all lovers of fine old fabrics, and especially to Barbara Brackman who has been my mentor since the 1980s, and who spent a wonderful afternoon at my home in Rose Township Ohio studying quilts and fabrics until darkness engulfed us.
